Paul notices the “non-dairy Creamer” thing that the US seems to have some kind of if not love affair, hidden addiction to. What’s almost worse than the non-dairy creamer actually containing dairy is that in my experience, sometimes airlines (and others) believe this is somehow Vegan.
Unfortunately, us Americans have completely messed with the food chain, and the very definition of what is considered to be food today. There’s a ton of non-vegan stuff out there that people consider to be vegan, why over 95% of the “non-dairy” cheese out there isn’t vegan boggles my mind.
Lactic acid, caseinate, and whey are the most common offenders, lame!
same here too… there’s even soy cheese with animal rennet. talk about finding new ways for fail.
Whilst not vegan my wife is allergic to casein (as well as being gluten intolerant) and this has led to various interesting experiences with places who don’t quite understand what dairy free means.. :-(
After moving to the US 3 months ago, I have become addicted to the “flavoured” non-dairy creamer. The main reason is that the coffee over here tastes terrible and you need something to mask the battery acid aromas wafting up from every cup.
Current favourite: Coffee-mate Hazelnut “fat free” coffee creamer.
Contents: Water, Sugar, Corn Syrup solids, partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottenseed oil….
