did something (early this morning) that well deserves a p76 award. well – at least a nomination.
i guess i’ll explain later… when all is good again.
(no, wasn’t work related – i haven’t gone and rm -rf mysql-5.0 or anything)

purchased the most essential item for running a home office today. A coffee machine. Getting better at making coffee with it too. The second cup was actually drinkable :)
great little terminal app. you set it up with timezones, then type ‘tzwatch’ – and it tells you the time!
Brilliant!
As of the 1st of December (my start date), I’ll be a Software Engineer at MySQL AB.
Exciting stuff.
Today is my last day working at SGI, and I’m home sick. have been all week. urgh.
So i’ll end up popping in next week to say goodbye to workmates that i’ve had this year.
Soon, I’ll be starting at my next job – so all excited for that!
Very nice beer and curry for lunch today. Feel soooo good atm. Very culinary satisfied.
You can have a serial console to GRUB – something i didn’t know. Which is cool – and sometimes needed.
The last thing you need is to drag your (soon to be) sweaty ass into a hot sauna server room to select a working kernel.
Dr Andrew Tridgell (or tridge as he is more commonly known as) has got a great paper up on his site about the AU-US FTA. It’s short, sweet and to the point.
FTA disastrous for Australian computer industry and users
In "About the Author" he does fail to simply say “tridge: genius”, but he does tend to be a bit modest :)
VPNs are just plain annoying
IPsec isn’t remotely easy enough to configure yet (i.e. it’s not easy point and click or at least point and type).
PPTP is butchery and icky and all wrong and not really *that* secure, but, MS OSs have support for it, and there’s a suppossedly working implementation that’s free. Unfortunately, i can *never* get the bloody encryption to work.
Freaky kernel hacks, modules that should exist but don’t (and don’t build)… grr….
All I want is a working VPN solution that runs on a free OS.
